How Eating Well Can Help Avoid Cold and Flu

The winter months are notorious for bringing on the flu and colds. Both of these are viruses therefore no cure is available. So taking care of yourself before is the best way to prevent from getting sick.

Here are some ways to help you avoid cold and flu.

Many have found that how we are feeling is linked to what we are eating. Often times eating can make you feel good. However eating the wrong types of foods can make you not feel good but possibly not look as good as time goes on. However if you eat certain types of foods they can help fight infections and keep other things from attacking your body.

As Discussed already, colds and the flu are more likely to get in to your system when we are rundown, stressed and tired. Stress creates changes in how we react to different things. The Immune system becomes able to fight infection when it is not being taken care of.

When we are stressed we tend to make less healthy eating choices. Most of us are running around from the time we wake up until we put our heads on the pillow, so eating a proper diet is something we don’t always have time for.

Veggies
What we are eating is very important. Food is what provides our body nutrients for its defenses, metabolism and cellular functions. When we lack the important nutrients our bodies begin to feel sick inside. Lack of calcium in the food we eat results in losing it from the bones. Lack of protein means the muscles are robbed for it.

Keep in mind that eating certain foods can help with this. Fruits and Vegetables brings us enough nutrients and vitamins. Making sure you get enough citrus fruits in your diet provides more vitamin C. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that is responsible for cellular repair and preventing disease processes like cancer, high blood pressure, and heart disease.

They also provide folic acid. Folic acid is given to expectant mothers to aid in the formation of the neural development of their unborn children. Folic acid can be found in oranges and orange juice.

Vegetables provide, vitamins A, C. D, E. and K. These vitamins improve the skin, hair, and nails (vitamin E). They also improve heart health, elasticity of blood vessels, increase serotonin levels to improve mood, and provide potassium. Many vegetables provide more than one vitamin or mineral.

Omega-3 fatty acids are instrumental in heart health. It can be found in salmon, mackerel, herring, and nuts like walnuts and flaxseed. Eating fish twice a week boosts the amount of omega-3s in the body.

Zinc strengthens the immune system. Meats like beef and lamb contain this helpful mineral. Eating lean cuts of beef twice a week along with chicken, lamb, and pork is healthy for the body and the immune system.

Watch what you eat. It not only tastes good on the outside but does a body good on the inside.
Pretty soon, you are bedridden with something close to dehydration. The flu virus can cause complications that lead to death. It is best to see the doctor before deciding to self-medicate for the flu.

Both the flu and a cold are spread by being in close contact with infected people. Take time this year to protect the ones you love as well as yourself by jumping on top of symptoms of the flu and colds when they begin.
