Kids and the real meaning of Christmas

Well as of right now its 15 days until Christmas,  Which means only 15 days left of shopping.  Well We are done for the most part a few things here and there for the boys and an outfit or two for Becky.  But I often wonder are we teaching them enough about the real meaning of Christmas,  I mean we do talk about the birth of Jesus and he is the real meaning for the season but I wonder how much is actually being learned.  I already know that my children are well spoiled and sadly becoming materialistic. I know where it comes from  and we are working on that.  I did some searching this morning for some activities to help them learn the real meaning I found a few sites that have some great ideas to teach them with out preaching.

  • This is an advent calender that has different activities to count down to Christmas
  • There is a Ebook from Little Kid Christmas Crafts that has a lot of great ideas on celebrating with crafts, recipes and coloring.  I just got it I haven’t had a chance to read through it all yet but it does look promising.
  • This one comes from the LDS ‘Friend’ Magazine. It is the 12 days of Christmas  Surprise, This is not a religious activity when looking at it but it does teach the act of sharing, and doing things for others.
  • Some other ideas I found is here at Raising Our Kids.  It has scriptures to read of you do that.  and other activities for families to do together.

I think one of the main things I read was to help teach them to give of themselves and share what they have.  I am going to turn Dec 17th the Bloggers Unite Random acts of Kindness activity in to a family one.  I am going to find things we can do for others together.

What ideas do you have that can help share and teach the real meaning of Christmas?  I hope you share them I love learning new ways to help teach the children

Have a Great Monday
