Weekly Round Up Jan 9th

Welcome to the First Weekly Round up of 2009. I did take a couple weeks off over the holidays with everything going on things were pretty crazy and this slipped though the cracks.

Here we are wrapping up the first full week of a brand new year. If your week was like ours here in Eastern WA. Its been a crazy week. Full of unpredictable weather and lots of cabin fever running in and out of the house.

Winter Break Is Now Over!

Here in Eastern Washington the students got an extended Christmas break. Three extra days because of the amount of snow we got in the last 3 weeks. We got over 6 feet in that 3 weeks. Hit with snow storm after snow storm no one was really able to keep up.  This area was breaking records left and right, it was nuts.

Well we finally got  break a couple of days ago, so the streets, sidewalks and roofs finally got cleared so they can go back at least at our school district today.

Does Santa Want Cookies or Veggies?

After a long day of baking cookies, shopping, and tracking Santa. Brendan and Becky decided they needed a warm bath where they got their Christmas PJs which made their bath speed up faster then normal.  We got dressed and ran down stairs to get santas treats ready. Becky insisted that she leaves milk and cookies, Brendan on the other hand insisted on a veggie tray saying that Santa needs to stay healthy so he can keep bringing toys to the rest of the boys and girls for years to come. So we made both.

Favorite Christmas Quotes

I am always touched by quotes that have been handed down through out the years. some bring a tear to the eye others a smile to my heart, or a giggle to my lips. I wanted to share with you a few days before Christmas a few of my Favorites.

I wish we could put up some of the Christmas spirit in jars and open a jar of it every month.  ~Harlan Miller

Christmas is not as much about opening our presents as opening our hearts.  ~Janice Maeditere

Christmas Morning Traditions?

This year a lot of things have been running in my mind about my childhood. And Christmas morning keeps popping Snow at our houseup, perhaps it is the fact that Christmas is 4 days away.  I remember waking up to to these amazing gifts then a warm breakfast then hours of playing till dinner time. No snow or heck even jackets we lived in So California.

Now as a mom of four I do what I can so when my children are my age they can sit and their memories of Christmas are the same just great presents a yummy breakfast and hours of play time, except here we have over 2.5 feet of snow in the back yard already and today is the first day of winter go figure.

Kids Christmas Craft – Snow Globes

Snow globes are everyones favorite to make and receive. These are great gifts for grandparents or for mom or dad. We do these every year for mantel decorations. The kids love creating them and I love seeing the progress each year of their advancement of skill and imagination.

If you want to make your own, gather glass or clear plastic containers, like baby food jars or mustard or mayonnaise jars.? Wash and dry them completely.

Gather small plastic Christmas or winter decorations. Try to find some that float. These add a little fun to the snow globe.

5 Tips to Planning a Family Christmas Dinner

It is one of the two times a year that families are guaranteed to get together for a meal. Christmas dinner with family is a big deal in most households. But, this year, plan ahead so that more time is actually spent with the family and not slaving over a hot stove.

Planning saves not only time but money when it comes to having a family gathering. At Christmas, most families are filled with good cheer and a longing to reconnect. Let the family Christmas dinner be the culmination of that celebration.
