Have you tried the Craftsy Block of the Month?

craftsy block of the monthThe Craftsy Block of the Month is a completely free, year-long online class instructed by expert quilter, Amy Gibson.

There are 12 installments, each one posted on the first day of every month. The first 10 months/installments teach our students two new exciting blocks (brand new designs or funky spins on traditional blocks). The last two months are dedicated to finishing the quilt. At the end of the class, our students will have full-size and one-of-a-kind quilts. You as a student can view it whenever it?s convenient for them, and can watch them however many times they?d like. It?s filmed in high-definition, and it?s fully interactive—students can ask Amy questions as they go.

All New Crafts for Valentines Day Review

With Valentine’s around the corner, you and your kids might be thinking of easy to do crafts. The “All New Crafts for Valentines” book provides 20 craft projects for your youngsters with a recommended age of 6 and up. The instructions given are easy to follow, so that your older child can pretty much do them on their own, whereas a younger child might need the help of an adult. I like the fact that the materials needed for the projects are easy to come by and inexpensive. Overall, there is some gluing, drawing and cutting involved. Each project starts with a “Here is what you need” list, followed by simple, illustrated, instructions.

How to Make a Beachwood Photo Holder

A trip to the beach is sure to create some lasting memories. The feel of the sand between your toes, the smell of the ocean and the warm beach sunshine are things that must be experienced to be appreciated. But once your vacation is over, photos can bring those sensations back quickly.

Many beach goers file their pictures away in a shoebox or photo album somewhere and forget about them. Some place them in cheap frames or pin them up on a bulletin board to enjoy every day. But don’t your treasured beach photos deserve better than that? This beechwood photo holder will do them justice while serving as a nice decorative touch for any room.

How to Make a Cloud Picture

Most children love to get their hands dirty while making crafts. They love the feel of finger paints oozing between their fingers and really don’t mind having glitter all over them. Some even think it’s fun! You can teach your child how to make a cloud picture, the perfect craft activity for a sunny day.

Encourage your child to spend some time watching the clouds pass by before beginning the craft. They’ll be able to see the various shapes, sizes, and colors of clouds. This will also give them ideas of what they can make their cloud pictures look like. If you have more than one child, it’s unlikely their pictures will look the same although they may be similar.

Here’s how to make this simple yet meaningful craft project.

Be Aware of Toxic Chemicals in Art Supplies

Art is a wonderful thing for children. It helps them develop creativity, cognitive skills and motor skills. It is also great for self-esteem. While these benefits are undeniable, art also poses some risks to children. That’s because many art supplies contain toxic chemicals.

It’s fairly well known that kids should not be exposed to certain types of paint. The chemical fumes are quite obvious, and the containers are clearly labeled with warnings about breathing those fumes and ingesting the product. But many parents are unaware that not every product that contains toxic ingredients is clearly identified. There are certain labeling standards that must be adhered to by law, but the label doesn’t always tell the whole story.
